Single best day on Carter Dome. Alone, no wind, sun and tons of snow which meant excellent views. 19 mile is a highway, and even better shape when I came down. Carter Dome Trail was loose on the way up (i.e. unconsolidated snow), was much better on the way down, and it will probably consolidate nicely tonight. I wore micro spikes to Zeta Pass then switched to snowshoes and broke the trail up to Carter Dome. Three others followed me up. Loop to Mt Hight is hard to find and not broken (Sign post on Northern end barely sticks out of snow). Vicki (https://newenglandtrailconditions.com/nh/viewreport.php?entryid=40434) broke up and over South Carter but stopped at the drop coming off South Carter. I picked up there and broke though to Middle Carter. I decided not to break out Imp Trail and retreated. On my way back I ran into two people that said they were going to break out Imp Trail so the loop should be broken out. |
