Comments
Comments: Monorail is quite firm for first 2 miles of Stony Brook Trail and was suitable for microspikes, but snowshoes are essential above that. At the col between Imp and Moriah, the snowshoe tracks form a "Y". The left track, which appears to head more directly toward Moriah, is not the trail; it links up with the trail after a short, somewhat brushy bushwhack. The actual trail goes to the right, seemingly away from Moriah, but turns left shortly after the "Y". Snow on the ridge is deep and what blazes I saw were just peaking out of the snow. Due to the snow depth there was a considerable amount of pushing through fir branches required (branches that are normally well overhead in the summer) even when I was clearly on the trail. As a result, there are several places where the snowshoe tracks diverged as people tried to find the easiest way along the ridge, but all seemed to come back to the trail eventually.
