Snowshoes Throughout. Only one set of postholes going approx. 1.5 miles up. They decided to turn around after a couple deep ankle hits. Snowpack is still high enough to cover most blazes after 2.5 miles. Lost the trail 3 times but they all meander back to the blue blazes. Had the pleasure of removing all the snow off the spruces. Above tree line it becomes unstable snow pack on ice. Patches of ice up top and decided to call it quits approx 300 feet from ridgeline. Trail is undefined as Cairns are under snow. Wasn’t going to become the statistic today and due to the mileage in to that point I wanted to ensure I could get out in the light. All together a wonderful return to one of my favorite hikes in the Whites. To those who flock to this ridge the Skoo is the best kept secret. Saw no one today! Awesome moose antler rubs on the trees through the birch field. |
