I couldn't find any info on Monadnock conditions, so I thought I'd post a report.
I started at Gilson Pond trail head, there's just a few inches of snow, so snowshoes are unnecessary.
Snow is packed and granular until the main mountain where large ice flows are everywhere.
I used crampons and was glad I did. I saw a group with just Yak-Trax having a real hard time descending.
The few people, I saw, were getting by with Micro-Spikes, but I'd definitely recommend crampons if you have them.
Cold and windy at the top, but a beautiful, sunny hike all around. |
