Perfect winter snow conditions for hiking the Tri's! No icy spots anywhere on the trails! Going up the steep sections just before North Tri's summit were a piece of cake compared to previous trips. The trail was hard packed from the road to the Sandwich Range sign; we wore spikes then switched to snowshoes as the trail was less packed and snow was soft. Lots of frozen over post holes. We saw lots of people out on the trails as the day progressed, about 7 of us wore snowshoes, the rest wore light traction despite the softer conditions 🤦â€â™€ï¸. The trail was easy to follow. However, just after the hard left turn (which crosses the stream that you can't see because it's all snowed over), the trail forks. The true trail goes left but the previous hikers have all gone right so that's the path that's better broken out. Both rejoin higher up. We went right on the way up but took the true trail on the way down. The alternate trail is the better one at the moment; the true trail is soft and narrow and challenging to hike. |
