Comments
Comments: Saturday night's freeze helped conditions tremendously. Erinn and I barebooted (no spikes for me...Snowcross have heavy lugs) from road until the the footpath went WAYYY off trail following the hard left out of the gully. The "wrong" trail continued in the exact opposite direction that it should, so we strapped on the Tubbs and broke our way across the gully at the first switchback and continued up the "real" trail. The other path meets back up with the normal trail about a half mile above the split. Continued in snow shoes to the summit of North, where I took mine off as the trail was very well packed. The out and back across the ridge was firm and enjoyable--feels nice to give the legs a break from the snowshoes for once. I weigh 170 lbs without a pack and spent zero seconds sinking. Saw many people in snowshoes and almost as many without; it was a day during which either option worked.

We took the off-trail trail on our return and I didn't like it..it's more packed out than the legit trail, but has quite a few post holes and the constant side-hill traversing was annoying. I would recommend following the path to the left on the ascent to get out of the gully.
