Traveling counter-clockwise, we intended to loop to South Peak and Orange. However, with limited signage and cairns, we were uncertain where Clark dropped off the summit, and with fierce winds and low temps, we lacked the required patience to look for the trail. Hence we decided to retrace our route back down via Mowglis and Manning. Back at the lodge we learned Skyland and Vistamont likely are not broken out, so out-and-back was probably a good decision for us.
We carried snowshoes, but setting off at 7:30 a.m. we found the trails were perfect for microspikes. The trails softened some by noon, and there was abundant evidence of postholing left from last week. Lots of ice and bare rock on top. |
