Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The lower brook crossing on the Carter Dome Trail is open. I had to remove my snowshoes, but I could walk across easily on rocks. However, if the water gets much higher it might be tricky.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Scattered blowdowns, but suspect many will be "duck unders" when the snow melts. Someone has already started to clear some of the blowdowns on the Carter Dome Trail - Kudos!

Comments
Comments: Nineteen Mile Brook to Carter Notch is like a sidewalk and micro spikes were great. Snowshoes were helpful (traction and elevators) heading up the Carter-Moriah Trail, although it was still quite firm and might be doable in microspikes. In several places I thought about switching to crampons, but never did. A little pushing through branches encroaching on the trail was required as the grade eased above the steep pitch. Snowshoes were essential along the ridge line with alternating windblown crust and snow drifts. As noted previously, the junction of the Carter Dome Trail with the Black Angel/Carter-Moriah Trail is not apparent and I never saw any tracks heading in that direction near where I suspect the junction is buried. (There are tracks going up Carter-Moriah from Zeta Pass toward Mt. Hight, but whether the track continues all the way to Carter Dome is not clear.) The Carter Dome Trail is fairly open and obvious on the east side of Mt. Hight. Carter Dome Trail below Zeta Pass is littered with deep postholes, but it was easy to stay out of them with snowshoes.
