Trails
Trails: Livermore Road, Mt. Tripyramid Trail, bushwhack
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Thursday, March 28, 2019
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Plenty of parking at the trailhead. The lot is a mess right now with melting/refreezing snow, potholes, etc. Low carriage cars should use caution.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow - Drifts
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Several small water crossings. Due to the deep snow, you had to maneuver down to the water, hop across, then work on getting yourself up onto the snow bank on the other side.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The trail was difficult to follow in many places due to the deep snow. AllTrails is a great app to keep you on track.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: No dogs on the trail. Might be difficult due to soft snow; i.e. constantly sinking into the snow or endlessly sliding down the mountain.
Bugs
Bugs: none that bite :)
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: none

Comments
Comments: Soft slippery snow was too soft for crampons. There was 4+ feet of snow in most places. I had to be hyper-focused with every step on the way up and even more so on the way down. Spruce traps lurking, bushwhacking, and several involuntary self-arrest slides later, I made it back! A long, exhausting and satisfying hike. It ended up being a 12.7-miles with 2,936 feet of elevation gain. Since I don't have extensive winter hiking experience, I hired Ken Hodges at Redline Guiding to be safe. Great mountaineering company.
