As per previous posters, the access road is packed solid and you can bare boot or wear just spikes.
The flats to the base of Carrigain are getting soft. Snowshoes a definite at this point. And it's _very_ soft at about 0.5 miles in where there are feeder streams crossing to the big brook on your right and the ice overs are starting to collapse. Caution.
The monorail on the way up Carrigain itself was solid (colder I guess) and I switched over to spikes rest of the way no prob. Still arctic looking (and feeling) on Signal Ridge and the summit. |
