Comments
Comments: Great parking lot with lots of space and a kiosk with info. Trail started out wide, dry and leafy. Met a hiker descending with his dogs. He looked at our feet and asked if we had spikes, which we did, and said it is still very ugly starting about halfway up. About 1/4 mile in, we hit the ice so put on our Hillsounds and proceeded to get lost following what we thought was a monorail. Turns out that the wall we had sat on to put on our spikes had a blaze above it indicating a left turn! Luckily, we didn’t go too far, mainly because the frequent blazing had disappeared. Back on the trail, the hike remained easy to moderate until we came to a rocky, steep slope. Not much ice but a little tricky. After that, the trail continued to rotate between easy, moderate and rocky, steep sections, all with significant ice. Once past that, the ledges started, still moderate and still icy but spikes worked great and there were several ‘bypass’ options. When you think you are at the summit, go a little bit further to a huge cairn near the junction with the Cliff Trail. Took some pics then made our way down VERY CAREFULLY; there were actually only one or two places that were extra hairy... Before we knew it, we were back on the easy going section! Great trail, even with the persistent Spring ice!
