Comments
Comments: The Old Halfway House Trail was almost completely free of snow and ice, with some small patches lingering at the end of that trail. The White Arrow Trail was a 50/50 mix of snow and ice from where it leaves Old Toll Rd. to just past the Fairy Spring Trail junction; past that, the trail was almost completely covered by continuous ice floes to treeline. From treeline to the summit, there was almost no snow or ice. I wore crampons up and down the icy part of White Arrow Trail and barebooted the other sections. Light traction (Microspikes, Hillsounds) would really only work if the spikes on them are still sharp. Most people I saw had no traction at all, so they hiked around all the ice flows. Even so, the level of unpreparedness I saw here wasn't nearly as bad as what I saw on Mt. Major yesterday.
