Comments
Comments: Several very icy spots coming down Black Snout on Big Ball Mountain Trail. Had to bushwhack around giant floes that were right on the trail (very pretty, but unpassable with only microspikes). The higher, steep part of the Shaw Trail before hitting Black Snout Trail was also snowy/icy, but not as bad as Big Ball Mtn Trail. Did some postholing on the upper trails of Black Snout and High Ridge before hitting the snowmobile trail and also coming down the south side of Black Snout. It would maybe have been nice to have snowshoes for those short section but we probably wouldn't have bothered putting them on just for those spots. Our deepest postholes were about knee deep but we saw a few deeper ones left by other hikers.

Nice waterfalls/cascades in Field Brook paralleling the lower part of the Shaw Trail!
