Crossed Rte. 31 and headed into the woods, making a beeline for Bean Mountain. Started out gradual, open woods then did some steeper climbing to a ridge. Could hear the turbines in the distance. Had to negotiate through a cedar patch with some calf deep snow in places then started climbing through more open but still cedar woods to a ridge where we saw, barely, our first wind turbine. Foggy and damp and windy up there. Cut across a log strewn swath and further up the ridge to a second turbine. The RHP was about 100 yards to the left on a high bump. A handle on a tree and a small cairn. We hung a peak register jar on the handle so hikers can sign in. Headed back to the turbine and the service road. Followed the road to just below Kennedy. Cut into the woods, heading toward the summit which was at the end of a gradually climbing ridge. A handle with a bag tied in a bow marked the RHP. We hung another peak register jar on the handle and headed down, making as straight a line as we could back toward the car. Open woods, a clear cut, then a field of raspberry bushes (ugh!) before we followed a stream until we popped out on an old, grassy woods road about.2 miles from Rte. 31. Followed it to the road and a short (.1 mile) road walk to our car. |
