Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Drake's Brook was emphatically uncrossable, for both the Sandwich Mt. Trail and the Drake's Brook Trail. Had to bushwack both going up (S'wich Mt) and coming down (Drake's)--which meant quite a long bushwack with no previous traffic on descent.

Comments
Comments: Tough going on a beautiful day. Microspikes all the way up, with monorail mostly able to support most of us; but deep snow (3-4') if you stepped the slightest bit to the side. Snowshoes on the way down, and as the day stayed quite warm, even the snowshoes postholed. On almost all small side streams, whatever remained of snow bridges collapsed merely from our approach. Even with snowshoes, staying right on the monorail, postholes were frequent; trying to snowshoe on softer snow to the side was a no-go. But despite the challenges, a great Earth Day. Moose & bear prints; a pair of snowy owls.
