Hiked North Mountain in Pawtuckaway State Park via the clockwise loop described in AMC Southern NH trail guide. 5 miles, 1,000 ft gain, 3 hours. I started at 9:30 and there were two other cars. When I was on the true summit of North the fog began to break up and in a short time gave way to some blue skies and sun. The rest of the hike remained that way, it was gorgeous, and reached about 71 degrees. This is a lovely hike with features of ridge walking, boulder fields, and lots of rock outcroppings. There is a red pine harvest going on North Mountain Bypass between Chase Trail and Round Pond Rd, but you can still hike through it. |
