| Comments: |
Elwell Trail is bone dry except for about four feet of easily negotiated ice, near the first stream crossing about 0.1 miles from the trailhead. Elsewhere, it's clear sailing.
About the Goose Pond Snowmobile Trail (Orange Trail): last fall, much of this was regraded, and the upper several inches of compacted ground/soil was stripped off (including any drainage ditches, waterbars, etc.). As a result, now that the snow has melted, this particular trail is a soft, muddy mess that will take some time to dry out. (Yes -- you can lose a boot in this, if you're not careful.) We hope that the drainage ditches are reinstalled/dug, as well, as run-off is ponding now in some sections.
For the Elwell Trail, this is only an issue on the short section where it runs concurrent with the Goose Pond Snowmobile Trail (Orange Trail); this section includes at least one waterbar/drainage ditch that might need to be re-installed.
