A very typical spring hike. No snow at start, bare-boot, but lots of mud and running water on trail. Around 2800 ft a small monorail started to show up which was somewhat avoidable for a time. Close to the spring I switched to snowshoes and kept them on over to Waumbek and back and switched back to bare-boot around 2800ft . It's messy-but very typical for this time of year. The monorail is very narrow in places and the snow is very soft and deep off it so there are plenty of postholes. As clumsy as they are in those conditions, I still recommend snowshoes to avoid the constant sinking that will happen with these warm temps. |
