Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Mt. Klem, Mt. Mack, NH
Trails
Trails: East Gilford Trail, Gilford Fire Road, Round Pond Trail, Round Pond-Piper Link, Klem-Mack Loop, Klem Spur, Mack Ridge Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Thursday, April 25, 2019
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The lot off of Woods Road is supposed to hold 5 cars. We were the 5th car and we couldn’t quite fit. I understand wanting to leave a little extra room between you and your neighbor so you don’t bang doors but if people had parked a bit closer together we would have been able to fit.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: There were a few. Nothing worse than a rock hop. Most were in the section between where Klem-Mack Loop intersects Mack Ridge Trail and Round Pond (on BOTH trails between this section). Some were just large puddles created by the rain that were hard to negotiate.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: All trails are well blazed and easy to follow. I’m not remembering much in the way of blowdowns. Surface conditions aren’t always great but otherwise good trail conditions. Personally I wouldn’t mind some signs at jcts like where Mack Ridge and Klem-Mack Loop intersect.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw 1 doing fine. I think dogs would enjoy this hike.
Bugs
Bugs: I noticed one fly and a butterfly.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: None

Comments
Comments: Started off cool and not as sunny as I was expecting. I had to put my glove liners on at a couple points during the hike!! The sun eventually came out and it was lovely though :)

The trails still have some serious mud, puddles, and soft areas in spots. In particular, coming down Mount Mack to Round Pond there is some VERY soft ground where you can really sink. You step on rocks and they just fall beneath your weight. Weird conditions.

One tiny section of avoidable ice on Klem-Mack Loop. All other snow/ice was seen off trail and was still very minimal.
