I saw Liam Cooney's trail report, but decided to offer my perspective. It's weird because I don't think I passed him and he did the same hike as me. The only variation was that I took Round Pond-Mount Mack Trail down from Mack instead of Mack Ridge Trail. I only saw one person in the parking lot just as I arrived, and then two different couples in the lot as I returned. Otherwise I didn't see a single soul on my entire hike. Like Liam said though, the day was not as sunny and warm as forecasted...at least in the morning and first half of the day. Also, coming down from Mack to Round Pond was crazy, with many parts of the ground simply sinking under your weight. Overall, classic April spring conditions for the trails. Mostly wet and muddy but I had a blast. I loved this hike and enjoy the splendor of Round Pond tucked away in the mountains, a true gem. No traction needed at all, may just some good boots. |
