Comments
Comments: Until the high point on Lambert Ridge the trail was bare and, surprisingly, mostly dry. Encountered tiny patches of snow in the Col between Lambert Ridge and Smarts proper. Only at the very summit, within a stones-throw of the fire tower, was there significant snow on the trail - and even then, only in shaded areas. Absolutely perfect weather, including full sun and very light wind. No flies or ticks. Sunset and great lighting when descending Lambert Ridge. Incredible views, with the Spring buds and evening light coloring the landscape with echoes of Autumn.(But note that I did NOT attempt the notoriously wet & muddy Ranger's Trail. Report is for main branch of AT only.)
