| Comments: |
There was some ice at the very start, then a mix of no snow and stable monorail. We wore micro spikes but not absolutlely necessary. There was little or no snow on the steep section between the Attitash Trail junction to just beyond the ledges. At about 2700 feet (beyond the ledges) the monorail was unstable and the post holing became slow and painful so we turned around. (Snow shoes were left in the back seat of the car.)
We were too chicken to cross Lucy Brook on the fallen log at the trail crossing. Looked upstream for a better area to cross but found nothing. We backtracked to the trail and found 2 fallen birches just a few feet downstream of the main trail crossing that was a little less scary.
Ended up being a pretty nice day and views from the ledges towards Conway, Jackson and Bartlett and beyond were great.
