After summiting, descending on Smith Summit trail, it was very difficult to see the trail markers. Visibility was done to about 20m. It is quite a treacherous place to find yourself off the trail. |

It was a very enjoyable hike, despite the weather causing such poor visibility. It was a lot tougher than expected, requiring all four limbs to tackle the rocks and boulders, especially above the tree line. The rocks were slippery in places.
The Pumpelly trail is marked with cairns on the approach to the summit, but with visibility down to about 20m it was only just possible to make them out.
Getting lost on the descent of Smith Summit trail was a bit scary. The GPS saved me, but the terrain off trail is quite dangerous. |
