Sunday saunter in the Sandwich Range. We started up Big Rock Cave Trail and meandered on top of Mt Mexico where we possibly found a summit marker (a couple large rocks stacked on a Boulder). Coming down the other side we hit our first small patches of snow. We enjoyed exploring Big Rock Cave and continued on our way. The crossing was no issue but you had to get your feet wet. Continuing up the snow started to get more numerous and after passing a viewpoint it was mostly snow on the trail. Here is where the fun began. About the last half mile to the ledges of Paugus was a constant about every third step we post holed to our thighs. I went down to my waist once and postholed my hand trying to get up. It was quite a comical scene. Well we finally reached the ledges where we took a lengthy break looking over the Sandwich Range. We decided not to press on to Hibbard as originally planned and turned it around. All in all an awesome day exploring the Sandwich Range with Hallie and Pemi. |
