Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: There were one or two crossings that were slightly thought provoking. Not necessarily hard, but you had to look around for the good bit. Otherwise, crossings were nominal.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail was mostly fine. One blow down that needed the attention of my saw, but that was dealt with swiftly. The ladder was in good shape, as were the few small puncheon-bridges. Thanks to the DOC for their continued attention.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Cannon the Wonder Dog was living his best life, tearing around and leaving nothing un-sniffed. And of course, what's a dog if he can't become wet and smelly? Yep, the brooks were fully investigated by our intrepid pup. *Le Sigh.*
Bugs
Bugs: Some black flies, but they could have been worse. And Cannon's fur wasn't inundated by ticks as we feared it might.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Lost: stress. Found: serenity.

Comments
Comments: It was an epic day. Views were mildly attenuated by the haze, but otherwise, it was a bluebird day with views out to Mt Washington (my monocular came in very handy) and Vermont's Long Trail peaks. Wow!

Cube is a gem. It's not hard, and yet, you get a lot of bang for your buck. Bring a picnic lunch, and maybe some binoculars. There's a lot to see and enjoy.

Right now, there's a significant amount of mud on the trail. Don't expect to bag this one in the next few weeks and have everything from your knees down remaining clean. It's not going to happen. There were a few spots of snow and ice clinging onto life by a frozen cobweb, but their days are limited. We saw numerous wild flowers, such as red trilliums and some bellwort. Even if your views from the top are cut down by clouds, you're going to have many beautiful things to see, so stay attuned to what's at your feet as well as what's miles away. Cube is a gem on so many levels.

If you're thinking about doing this one, have at it. The trail is fine. If you weren't thinking about it, hike it anyway. Thank me later.

Photos (that really took themselves) are on my blog.
