Trail was clear until 2600 feet where we put on micro spikes. The monorail to the summit is very narrow in many places and great care must be taken to stay on it. If you get off, you could post hole to your thigh in some places. Using poles also tricky because snow is soft on the sides and poles will go down 3 feet in places if you place them on the sides. As expected, in the morning monorail was more solid and in the afternoon, softer, thus easier to fall through. Lots of places with running water underneath and small snowbridges were holding for now, but some spots looked like they could cave in pretty soon. Summit was clear of snow. We carried snowshoes, but did not need them. |
