Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The water crossing at 0.9 miles on the Bunnell Notch Trail was challenging. It was deep and moving fast. We had to go a significant way downstream to find a spot that was rock-hoppable/shallow enough to put our feet in to ankle deep water if we couldn't reach the next rock. Every other crossing was fine.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: This trail desperately needs some blazes. We saw a total of 3 all day and there were several spots where it wasn't clear which way the trail went. There was a lot of water on the trail, including a few significantly large and deep puddles - a couple on the logging road section of Bunnell Notch Trail and at the trail junction of Bunnell Notch and Kilkenny Ridge - that would significantly benefit from the addition of bog bridges or large rocks to hop across. There were a few blow downs, but all were easily bypassed.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Nola had a fabulous day!

Lost and Found
Lost and Found: We found one spike on the Kilkenny Ridge Trail. I brought it home since the trailhead is so remote. Shoot me an email and I'll get it back to you!

Comments
Comments: There is less snow than last week, but that is still not saying much. The trail was wet in many spots with water running down it. The amount of water we encountered on trail was a bit much, even for our waterproof boots. Any monorail on the Bunnell Notch Trail and some of the monorail on Kilkenny Ridge Trail could be straddled or walked beside on clear trail. Partway up the Kilkenny Ridge Trail, we switched to spikes as the snow increased. The monorail was fairly narrow, but up to the cabin the snow beside the monorail was relatively shallow, so if we postholed, we didn't go too far down. North of the cabin we had to switch to snowshoes. The snow was deeper and less firm than the monorail further south on the trail.
