Comments
Comments: Barebooted Crawford Connector (isolated stretches of thin monorail). Bareboots up Crawford Path until a short distance below Mizpah Cutoff, then Hillsound spikes to Pierce. The monorail up Pierce was very solid and stable today (Sunday), with the cold overnight and morning temps. Summit of Pierce is bare rock. Spikes for the descent into the col from Pierce over to Eisenhower, the monorail still fairly stable but not as easily negotiated as the monorail up to Pierce. Brought snowshoes just in case, but didn't need them. With warmer temps, snowshoes might be helpful on this section. Barebooted the open, bare ledges to Eisenhower summit, then barebooted all the way back from Eisenhower to Pierce. Spikes back on for the first part of descent from Pierce, as the monorail was slick in early afternoon. There is still 3-4 ft of snow above 3000ft, very slow to melt. No wind and mild temps, a great day for Eisenhower, and had the summit to ourselves.
