Mt. Tecumseh Trail ascending, Sosman Trail and ski lift trail descending
Snow appeared pretty early on the trail on the way up, just past the stream crossing. Saw several people on their way down that recommended micro/nano spikes, but our small group managed just fine with hiking boots and running sneakers. The monorail was pretty stable on Mt. Tecumseh Trail, despite us starting in the afternoon where a fair number of people had already tread through. No ice on the monorail, just like a half inch of loose snow that was easily compacted. There was still about 3-4 feet of snow on the trail on the way up, and the monorail was a little thin in some places, but the immediate sides were pretty compact from people that day walking beside it. Going down Sosman Trail to the top of the ski area, the monorail was a little less stable, but with less overall snow (only about 1-2 feet overall). The ski trails were pretty clear of snow which is why we elected to descend that route. It was steep as expected on the way down, but relatively dry considering the time of year. Also, it was a direct route back to the parking lot so we didn't have to worry about direction at all. Had great views at the summit and at the lookout points. |
