Comments
Comments: Pretty decent trail for the first mile (some minor mud- really nothing bad.) Threw spikes on at one- the steep stretch to Avalon is initially super rocky and wet so spikes were on and off for a bit. (Some unavoidable mud- but no ankle deep sinkholes yet.) After the rocky climb, spikes ON. As a very small woman, who treads daintily on the ever narrowing monorail, I didn't have too many issues today. Some slipping and a couple post holes but not awful. HOWEVER. Deteriorating conditions for sure, especially if you are a normal sized human (or, any sized human lacking decent traction.) There was some serious cursing and multiple potholing from others in my group. After Field the trail got super stupid- SO many leaning pines in the trail, wonky unstable mono, just shit. We had intended to tag Willey but it just wasn't worth it. Ended the day with soaked feet, but happy to have some good views (the clouds lifted for us!)
