Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Right now, the best place to cross Crawford Brook near the trailhead is about 50-75 feet below the usual crossing, where there's still enough of an ice bridge to make it relatively easy. The second crossing of the brook, up a little higher, is a rock hop across flowing water.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Some blowdowns, nothing major, nothing problematic.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Fine hike today for both Tuckerman and Polly. Not much water, but neither seemed bothered.

Comments
Comments: Excellent trailbed from trailhead all the way to Mt. Avalon. The short spur to the summit of Avalon is now broken out all the way. From Avalon to Field, the bed's a little choppy in places due to barebooters. Intended to include Willey on this trip, but about a quarter mile south of Field I lost the track that Bryan had put down yesterday due to wind, drifting, and crusting. (A couple of hikers I met on Field thought they'd give the route to Willey a try today anyway.) From Field to the A-Z junction, the Willey Range Trail is in good shape. The Mt. Tom Spur is also fine, although I lost the trail just below the summit and had to bushwhack briefly to reach the peak. A-Z Trail in excellent shape, with some impressively deep postholes here and there. Nice to meet Richard from western Mass. today and a group that had spent the night at Zealand, plus a great dog named Kappa. Due to fog, views from these summits today existed only in one's imagination. Great to be back on the trails after the flu earlier this month. Photos to come.
