Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Mt. Garfield , NH
Trails
Trails: Garfield Trail, Garfield Ridge Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Monday, May 27, 2019
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: About 2 dozen cars at 9am. As an aside, they are really cracking down on parking only in lots for the Franconia Ridge loop. There were pylons with rope as barriers so you couldn’t park on the througway even if you wanted to and didn’t mind a ticket. It looks unsightly but maybe the crowds on that hike will thin out.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow - Spring Snow, Snow/Ice - Small Patches
Recommended Equipment

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Walked through no more than 2” of water at the crossings

Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Lots of water even after the group of major crossings. Hank Williams met a 6 month old black lab that he really liked. We met 3 other dogs, all well behaved and discussed a packable rescue harness with a couple of guys out with an older dog.
Bugs
Bugs: Some black flies before the water crossings but went away shortly thereafter. They weren’t bad. I’d rate the annoyance a 2 on a scale of 1-10. They were barely noticeable on the way back.

Comments
Comments: It was a pleasure to meet and talk with Waumback. He gave me an over view of the peaks on the summit and identified wild flowers for me. Trout lilies were out in abundance and i saw a fair amount of trillium.
Not a very crowded trail for a holiday. Weather was pleasant, bugs were few, parking was easy, traffic was even ok.
