| Water Crossing Notes: |
Guinea Pond Trail had beaver dam pond which was tricky to navigate around. I noticed a small cairn going eastbound, but hard to tell how to get back to the trail. I ended up bushwhacking to Cold river. It was easier returning as it became clear coming from other direction (westbound). |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
There are couple of large blow downs on lower part of Mead Trail. One is easily stepped across going to the left so it could be left in place. Second one lower down is bit harder to get by. Waterbars on lower portion of Wentworth Trail need cleaning. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Encountered many nice dogs with good trail manners. |
|
| Bugs: |
Black flies and mosquito's were out in force mainly in low lands. There was nice steady breeze at summit elevations which kept them away. Don't forget your bug juice and head net. |
|
| Lost and Found: |
There was someone's credit or bank stuck on trail sign at beginning of Wentworth Trail. |

| Comments: |
Other than water bars needing attention on Wentworth Trail - nothing to comment there. I'd never been down the Mead Trail. Mead Trail is real nice features nice organic matter not beat to crap by too much traffic. It did have some poorly drained sections. Trail passes through some nice birch glades. I visited Guinea Pond Spur trail which has a tricky water crossing. I went 3/4 mile or so up Black Mountain Pond Trail. Beebe River crossing was easy, but could be tough during high water. There is another water crossing further in which has broken bridge which I suppose will never get fixed due to being Wilderness Area. Fortunately there is tree growing sideways across the brook that one can use to cross although it is tricky. I skipped the bypass trail and tip-toed on edges of trail to cross the snomo bridge on Guinea Pond Trail. Long 14 mile day for me - great to be out equipped with bug spray. |
