Normal Lincoln Woods lot - was one of the first cars there in the morning. The usual $5 |

Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant, Snow/Ice - Small Patches |

| Water Crossing Notes: |
The two Lincoln Brook crossings are in pretty good shape, but not rock hoppable, so prepare to wade. Water for me (I'm 6'2") was just up to my knees. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Quite a lot of extensive mud patches on the Lincoln Brook trail. There are a few blowdowns on the ridge of Owl's Head, but nothing too difficult to avoid. |

| Bugs: |
Thought I was lucky on my way in - had minimal bugs (maybe I was up before them), but the mosquitos on the Black Pond Bushwhack on the way back, once once things had warmed up, were pretty brutal. I was going to stop to refill my water, but they were so bad I just carried on. Not bad as long as you keep moving! |

Beautiful day out to Owl's Head. I was glad I had downloaded waypoints for the bushwhacks though (plus map and compass) as they are getting pretty hard to follow with all the summer growth coming in. The upper/steeper sections of Brutus were particularly tricky to follow without GPS. If you're not familiar with them, or are not used to bushwhacking, I'd stick to the set trails, particularly since the Lincoln Brook water crossings are in good shape.
Still a few significant patches of snow on top of Owl's Head on the last day in May! It's hard packed though so no problems walking on and no traction needed. |
