This 52WAV has minimal views anymore except for one ledge on Wonalancet Range Tr, and the aforementioned overlook as you near Hibbard. Still lovely trail, only one steep challenging section of larger rocks and wet roots before Short Cut, which itself had heavy leaf cover making for a little slipping too. We weren’t sure exactly where Hibbard was and my Guthook app was tracking 0.2 mi behind White Mountain Guide waypoints, so we walked to the Walden Trail junction before stopping. Oddly WRT kept ascending after we reached what would have been Hibbard. We didn’t mind the extra bit of gain in the cool forest as sun mixed with clouds and wildness restored the soul.
We met a local as we descended Short Cut to WRT who said he loves this trail and hikes it often. Being views-lovers we seek other peak moments but its gentle rise and lack of crowds was indeed appealing. |
