Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Mt. Mist, Webster Slide Mountain, NH
Trails
Trails: Wachipauka Pond Trail, Webster Slide Trail, Wachipauka Pond Spur
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, June 1, 2019
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: We did a traverse with a car spot and there was plenty of room to park at both ends of the trail as it is not that frequently travelled by those who aren’t thru hiking. Headed west on 25, the eastern trailhead is shortly past the right hand turn on High St towards Glencliff.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Easy and not a problem :)
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: If there were blowdowns they couldn’t have been that bad because I’ve forgotten about them 🙃 The trail seemed to me to be in great shape for thru-hiker season :) The white blaze on Wachipauka Pond Trail (AT) is easy enough to see and frequent. Webster Slide Trail is well blazed in blue and easy to follow.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Didn’t see any but I imagine they’d be fine.
Bugs
Bugs: The black flies were horrendous if you’re slow. If you’re fast and don’t stop long you’ll be okay but otherwise I’d bring long sleeves, pants, a head net, possibly a bug shirt, and lots of spray (deet) or wipes. They were out in full force and this is probably one of the worst times I’ve ever seen them.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: None

Comments
Comments: South to north traverse of Wachipauka Pond Trail with a car spot. Hit Webster Slide Trail and all the other redlining spurs along the way. All spurs were easy enough to find/follow except the one closer to the north end of the trail that goes to the pond. I decided to just continue onto this spur from the end of the other spur (which starts at the jct with Webster Slide Trail) and the trail quickly becomes incredibly overgrown. It’s easy enough to follow (when in doubt push forward lol) and it’d be hard to get lost out there but that section definitely needs some brushing. That said, I really enjoyed the pond area :) There are many other little paths around that area that I took care not to get turned around on.

No views at Mount Mist (which to me seemed to be right on trail) but if you do the spurs mentioned in the guidebook near the top of Webster Slide, particularly the southwestern one, you’ll get some pretty nice views.

Still many mud pits but otherwise dry trail.
