Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Water is still fairly high, but all the crossing were rock hopped with some care. I slipped off a rock at the end of the day and got a sock wet, but it was only my error
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Lots of work has been done to clear the blow downs across the ridge. Still a bit more work to be done. 3 duck unders and a pine that dropped it's crown in the middle of the trail causing a walk around
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: one very happy lab mix chugging up North Hancock slide as we were coming down.
Bugs
Bugs: surprisingly no bugs today in the cool mist, but doing a complete tick check tonight.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Found the bottom section of an aluminum trekking pole coming down North Hancock slide

Comments
Comments: The trail is pretty wet after the first mile. Lots of mud sections to go through, so if it's a rainy day for the next few weeks perhaps stay off the Hancocks. We saw several couples out today and one big AMC lead group coming out from an overnight. The snow almost gone but there was a section of monorail going up South Hancock slide that could not be avoided, but it is at most 30 meters long. Between the peaks there are a couple sections of crumbling monorail, but again nothing that lasts very long. I was fine in shorts and ankle gaiters. Summer season conditions are coming fast. We encountered a very persistent grouse at the lookout trying to get a piece of our lunch. Apparently this bird has heard what the Grey Jays get from hikers. The walk down North Hancock slide was loose rock in several sections, be cautious descending. It was a good day out with my 2 mountain goats.
