Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: many small slippery crossings
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: not one single blowdown encountered, a few bog bridges on four soldiers are breaking up and I think Underhill path had some dicey ones too. these trails are not heavily traveled, so footbed is not obvious in many places, but I thought the blazing was good.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: the terrain is fine for dogs...vegetation encroaches the trail so likely to pick up ticks. Underhill path and Crescent Ridge and Sargent Path...not much water.
Bugs
Bugs: Black flies and mosquitoes were really bad. glad I had my head net. kept long sleeves on all day and reapplied repellant to my legs three times.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: nada

Comments
Comments: a redlining trip out to POS, which is really a lovely pond in the middle of nowhere, however I did not find the journey delightful. When I got to the wet boggy section on 4 soldiers, I considered turning around. it just wasn't fun. Blazing on 4 soldiers is actually yellow, where the guidebook says orange. On the return from POS I took Underhill Path (continuous climb), to Crescent Ridge, which was the best trail of the day. No water, but it's a clear soft footbed. Sargent path leaves steeply from Lookout Ledge thru rocks and roots. it pretty much descends straight down to the road and gets rougher with loose rocks, erosion, and leaves. Didn't see a single soul until the afternoon as I approached Lookout ledge which has great views of King Ravine.
