Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: No significant blowdowns or other obstacles to note.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: We saw a few dogs on the trails, but they all had boots on to help their paws. Gulfside Trail is rocky from Madison Spring Hut to Jefferson.
Bugs
Bugs: Horrendous on the summit of Jefferson (could only sit at the summit long enough to take a photo and then had to go down just below the summit to get away from them). Mildly annoying everywhere else above treeline. Very buggy down by Appalachia parking lot.

Comments
Comments: We took the a longer route over to Jefferson from the Madison Spring Hut. This route along the Gulfside Trail has amazing views the whole way. However, it's very rocky. There is one snowfield left on Gulfside heading to Jefferson from the Madison Spring Hut (maybe 30 yards or less) - it is packed down, but requires caution... it's at a rather steep angle.
