We were blessed with another great day out in the Whites. Made our way up the ski trail and jeep road up to the summit lodge, then up to the summit of NE Loon. From the opening in the trees under the big yellow out of bounds sign (down the slope a little) We followed the herd path which was pretty much a trail to the turn off for the real bushwhack. Watch for logs on the side of the trail which are arranged like an arrow to show you the way. There is a faint path to follow, but mostly as previous posts have noted, its somewhat of a free for all. From the broad flat col below the Scar summit, tend somewhat left of the ridgeline to miss most of the blowdowns. The summit is broad, flat and covered by a maze of blowdowns. Follow the slightly more distinct herd path into the middle of the maze. The cannister is red/orange and up pretty high on a tree. You will need to hunt around a few minutes to find it. And so another one ticked off the list. |
