| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Haystack road still gated. Further in the road is still soft on the edges with standing water, so it might still be a while before it is open |

|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
It's a bushwhack so expect some tight spaces and blow downs |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Fine for a dog if they don't mind bushwhacks |
|
| Bugs: |
Some mosquitoes and plenty of black flies. As they day went on they seemed to get worse, but my bug spray was probably wearing off from sweating |

Haystack road is an easy walk and a good warm up. I was able to follow a herd path pretty much the entire time. In some places it forks then rejoins or you have a go around a blow down and come back to it. I think I only found one or two dead end paths. On the way down I didn't focus as much on the path since the woods become pretty easy walking the further down you get and it wasn't hard to work my way back to the herd path. The herd path does go through an old cut with lots of saplings, but some trimming has gone on in there over the years so it's easy to follow. I opted to go around this on the way down for something different and even with some hobblebush and saplings it was still good going.
View 50 feet from the summit is great and easy to find. Since the two notepads in the canister are full (and dating back to at least 2010) I left my partial notepad that I carry in my backpack. Pencil in the canister and the pen seemed to work fine still. Now with 3 notepads in there it's getting a bit tight though. |
