Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: None.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: No issues. The MRAR is pretty well built, and it appears some construction was done very recently, perhaps within the last few days or weeks. It's well marked with white tape around trees, cairns, signs and scree walls. It could use water bars though, as overall it's fairly steep.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Sure.
Bugs
Bugs: All of them. Mosquitoes down low and black flies on the ridge. I also picked up one tick.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: One mountain biking glove which I carried out.

Comments
Comments: I stopped on my way home from the Ossipees to check out this signed alternative route to Rowe. It starts 0.3 mi. up the access road that Ridge Trail follows, and rejoins it at the cell tower. It parallels the road lower down, but swings out away from it higher up. It meets the old ski trail from Chalet Road on the ridge, and follows that to the tower. Distance is the same as sticking to the main trail, 0.9 mi. Nice new footbed and fairly steep in places, but a much better hike than walking that gnarly gravel road the whole way.

From the tower, I went over the high point of Rowe and down to the ledges by the USGS station for a break. Despite the forecast, the weather stayed pretty decent and a breeze up top helped with the bugs somewhat.
