I had read there was some sort of access to this peak from Old GIlsum Road and approximately where it started, so I checked it out.
The woods road opposite where I parked is mostly clear as a bell and is definitely well-used. I followed it at easy grades until it petered out. From there, a well-worn footpath departed left (flagging at junction) and ascended to the ridge north of the peak. At the height-of-land I turned left onto another path (flagging at junction) which eventually merged into the woods road which climbs the ridge from the west and is depicted on the USGS. I went this far in an attempt to find some sort of trailed access to the summit. Finding none, i easily bushwhacked up in super open woods to the unrecognized, flat summit. I then bushwhacked north along a small ridge and back to the trail.
Despite the sunny forecast, a brief shower and some thunder moved in as I was walking out. |
