Comments: Scar Ridge lived up to its reputation as a hard bushwhack. However the bushwhack is preceded by a heart pounding 2000 foot climb in 1.5 miles up the ski slope. Three runners passed us here. I offered them my pack for additional exercise but no takers. Swarms of black flies and mosquitoes greeted us at around 2500 feet. Herd path seemed more like a maintained trail than a herd path. Despite map and compass planning we got a little too far down on the north side of the ridge. Tried to follow a straight line compass bearing but numerous obstacles including blowdowns made that very difficult. Had some trouble finding the canister amidst major blowdowns everywhere. Note: unlike some other canisters this one opens from the bottom. Returned on a faster route just going mostly west a ways on the ridge then northwest back to the herd path. This proved much easier except for a small hill/cliff near the end which probably can be bypassed. Contrary to a grim forecast there was no rain or thundershowers but had some sun and not too hot.
