Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Water is low and the crossings are easy.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: All three trails have received recent maintenance - brushing, water bars cleaned, and fallen trees removed. A young crew is currently working on the Carrigain Notch trail, with a relocation past a washed out section near the west end. Trees were being chopped, brush clipped, and black muck dredged out from water bars as I passed through. Great job guys!
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: No dogs encountered today.
Bugs
Bugs: A cool breeze on the summit kept the blackflies away. Mosquitoes were light in the valley in the morning. However, when I passed over Carrigain Notch in the afternoon, and lost that light nw breeze, the next 2 miles became a Mosquito Gauntlet. They were hungry and didn't care how much bug spray I used. A fast exit was my best defense.

Comments
Comments: A blue sky hot day today for Carrigain. Met a few people on the way up, and half a dozen on the platform, where the cool breeze was very refreshing. Heading down the Desolation trail, I met no hikers for the next eight miles. Just the trail crew. Aside from this year's bumper crop of mosquitoes, it was a great day to be in the woods.
