Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked at end of Alton Mountain Road. There is a newer 2nd parking area down the Old Stage Road a few yards. Only a few cars today.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Easy stuff
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Pretty good, a few minor step overs. What the trail needs is more traffic.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Do check for ticks. There's water on Precipice Path; but Blueberry Pasture, and up on top, is pretty dry.
Bugs
Bugs: Had my permethrin sweat suit on. Picked what I think is two deer ticks off my pants. One might have been dead, that one was down in the pantcuff where I treated more thoroughly. Mosquitoes, deer flies, black flies all the way up, all the way down. Bad enough for a head net (which I left in my other pack!). Up on top, I was able to downshift and relax, as the breeze kept them off.

Comments
Comments: It seems like the Blueberry Pasture Trail has had a lot of really nice gravel work done over that long ankle breaker eroded section. A lot nicer than I remember it from last year. Much appreciated!

I found six ripe blueberries today. Blue gold to a sweated out red eyed old bastard like me. Gawd I love hiking and munching on wild blueberries. They just go perfect together.
