Comments
Comments: Nice quick bushwhack to this NH 2000-Footer / NH 500 Highest Peak. While other folks hit this summit from the north, I wanted to make the hike a little longer and check out Unknown Pond along the way and decided on an approach from the southeast.

From our parking location we started up the old skidder road heading northeast towards the col between a summit to the northwest, a summit to the southeast, Unknown Pond and Unknown Pond Mountain to its northeast. Ya it looks like a pretty cool spot on map and an aerial satellite view.

We bounced on and off that skidder road at moderate grade and after a short distance we picked up an old grassy woods road followed that for a few as it was running alongside that summit to the southeast of the col, picked up a few herd path and then dropped down to the col and started climbing in nice woods, crossed a few older grassy logging road and soon hit the recognized high point of Unknown Pond Mountain.

After signing in, it was time to check out Unknown Pond. We dropped of the summit heading southwest in nice woods towards the south end of the pond. Wow what a picturesque pond and well worth a little extra hike. After checking that out we started heading southwest pick up a moose highway running for a good distance and once it started hitting tall grassy logging cuts, we jumped off picking up that skidder road we came up on and back to the truck.

Another great adventure with my beautiful bride Mary.
