Parking/Access Road Notes: I thought there was parking ON Mountain side rode, but parking is on Rte 112. There are two dirt pullouts, one before and one after, where the restaurant stood. Now, the restaurant property is bouldered off and marked with "Private Property" signs.

Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: after Saturday night's rain, water was rushing, but there were still rocks available for hopping. I opted to wade across.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: trail is easily followed, though blazes could use a little freshening up. two trees in the trail about a .25 mile from the pond. one is easily straddled, the other an old ball snagging fir. i would've limbed it if I had had my saw.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: right now there is plenty of water for fido and the terrain is is great.
Bugs
Bugs: some mosquitos when I left the car in the morning, but as I climbed and the breeze picked up, they went away. at the pond, a few bitey black flies, but not terrible. bugs didn't bother me at all on the descent. I picked up a few dog ticks in the power line cuts.

Comments
Comments: redline hike: I really liked this trail! Lovely wide trail and open woods. Sure, there are plenty of mud pits...muddiest hike I think I've ever been on. the last half-mile before the pond is very muddy. I'm glad I didn't need the section from the pond to the ridge, because I couldn't find where the trail went left, instead of to the pond. After leaving the pond, I carefully retraced my steps to looked and looked, but didn't see anything that looked like the trail. there were a couple of spots along the trail, even high up, where I saw the tread marks from a bike!!! huh??? The falls were gorgeous and the river/brook was so inviting that on my way out I bushwhacked down to a secluded sunny rock and took a skinny dip. didn't see another soul all day. the flats in the lower half of the trail are a trail runner's dream....mud and all.
