| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
It's a 5.3 mile ride on Success Pond Rd to get to the trail head. Success Pond Road is in very rough shape, with lots of potholes, ruts, and exposed rocks. Recommend a vehicle with decent ground clearance. |

| Water Crossing Notes: |
In a couple spots we had mud cover our boots, but mostly it was avoidable. |

| Dog-Related Notes: |
We didn't see any dogs. There were a couple spots of steep rocky areas that may be difficult for dogs. |
|
| Bugs: |
The bugs were vicious. We were surprised that the black flies were still prevalent, and the mosquitoes and horseflies were bad as well. |

| Comments: |
The hike was tougher than expected, being fairly steep and with lots of wet rocks and roots to contend with. The Outlook Loop was worth doing and provided fantastic views - we had an eagle soar by on the thermals while we were there.
At the summit we continued south on the Mahoosuc trail in search of the plane wreckage. After about 10 minutes we saw a trail to the left marked by some small pieces of orange surveyor's tape. There was a lookout ledge and off of that more surveyor's tape and a very narrow trail that we followed for another ten minutes that brought us to the wreckage. The trip to the wreckage was worth the extra time.
My GPS showed the entire round trip, with the Outlook Loop on the way up, and the visit to the wreckage, was 7.65 miles. |
