Comments
Comments: Had this loop on the radar for a long time. When you cross the Wild River the Highwater trail kind of stops heading upstream at a double blaze, just stay in the open woods for about 1/10th of a mile and the trail will re-appear below you towards the river. Probably was washed out from Irene a few years back, maybe I missed it? Moriah Brook is better than advertised. One section of big mud bogging near the top that I managed top sink knee deep on. No issues following the trail. Easy to figure out where it goes even across many stream crossings. Carter Moriah trail is in its usual summer state, same with Carter Dome. Black Angel starts out a bit rough on the descent and has quite a few big blowdowns that can be circumvented. When it bottoms out at the river the old bridge remnants are again about 1/10th of a mile downstream. Lots of Moose poop, no Moose. 19.6 miles and 5300 feet of gain. This would make a good run loop for the strong. Most of it is runnable. Ted, if you are reading this nice meeting you. Good luck on the redlining.
